Following dinner, a local archaeologist, Dr. Ian Stern, will give a lecture entitled "From King David to the 21st Century: An introduction to the history and archaeology of Jerusalem". The lecture will take place in the Shaked Hall.

 

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

12:30 Guided Tour in the Old City of Jerusalem
Explore some of the sites of historical, archaeological and religious significance in the Old City with a government licensed tour guide.

Meet near the reception at 12:20. Buses will depart promptly at 12:30

Following the tour of Jerusalem and dinner, participants have a further opportunity to network in the foyer of the Shaked Hall. Each participant will receive a beer voucher in their registration kits.

A farewell party with a performance by Amen & Channoch (The Black Hebrews) will be held at the hotel in the Arava Hall.

Enjoy a full day guided tour in the Dead Sea region - at 400m below sea level  the lowest place on earth.

Depart Jerusalem via the Judean desert and begin the day at Masada. Ascend the mountain by cable car to tour the remains of the 2000-year-old fortress and palace built by King Herod which witnessed the last stand by Jewish zealots against Rome in AD 73.  After descending Masada, enjoy time floating in the therapeutic and mineral-rich Dead Sea.

Return to Jerusalem for overnight and join optional Pre-Tour B.

Following breakfast, check out of the hotel. The guide will assist you to load your luggage onto the correct vehicle.

Select your preferred morning trip on the registration from:

  • B1: Visit Yad Vashem, memorial to the Holocaust
  • B2: Trip to Bethlehem and the Church of Nativity

Following the morning excursions, meet up at the Israel Museum for a tour of the "Second Temple Model".

Following breakfast check-out of of  the Orchid Jerusalem view Hotel (Ma'ale Hachamisha).
Travel to the north of Israel to visit some of the historic sites around the Sea of Galilee.  Enjoy a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee followed by a St. Peter's fish lunch. Tour the ancient fishing village of Capernaum including the site of an ancient Byzantine-era synagogue. Visit Tabgha (the traditional site of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes), the Mount of Beatitudes and Tiberias. Proceed to Nazareth for check-in to hotel and overnight.

Begin the day at the Church of Annunciation in Nazareth. Continue on to Haifa for a view from Mount Carmel over the Bahai Gardens and Haifa Bay. 

On to Caesarea, the port city on the Mediterranean coast built by Herod the Great about 25–13 BCE. Explore the remains of markets, wide roads, baths,  temples, storerooms, harbor and the Roman theater still in use today as venue for concerts.

Proceed to Tel Aviv for overnight.
