ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Many studies in the last decade have vastly increased the landscape of epigenetic modifications and regulators involved in both physiological and pathologic states. The dynamic nature of epigenetic marks, together with their ability to regulate genome-wide transcriptional programs, places epigenetics as a critical building block in a wide variety of biological processes. Of particular interest is the parallel between epigenetic and nervous system plasticity, whereby epigenetic marks dynamically change not only during physiological brain development, but also in the context of brain disorders.
In this context, the main objectives of this EMBO Workshop are to bring together leading experts from these interdisciplinary fields, and to allow young researchers (PhD students and Post-Docs) from both backgrounds to appreciate the state-of-the-art and the novel opportunities from an integrative interdisciplinary approach encompassing epigenetics and neurosciences.
The programme will cover:
- Epigenetic mechanisms,
- How these relate with physiological brain development and function,
- Their relevance in brain pathologies (e.g., stress-related disorders and neuro-oncology).
Particular attention will be given to maintain an integrative perspective between these themes.
