The course is about how to analyze and interpret NGS data. A particular focus will be made on infectious/parasitic diseases NGS applications. We will specifically use parasite datasets to provide examples and hints for the interpretation of NGS datasets in a transcriptomic and/or genomic context. As more and more massive omics data are generated, efficient platforms are continuously thriving to offer advanced data analysis tools/methods. However, their availability or use is often overlooked. Hence, this EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Course intends to give an opportunity for post-graduate biologists, bioinformaticians and computer scientists of an intermediate level working on high-throughput data to gain skills and learn dedicated methods for their data analyses. This course is open to international participants.

Course presentation

The EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Course will be balanced between lectures and tutorial sessions for NGS data analyses. A series of lectures on recent hot topics related to NGS data analyses and parasitic genomes are included in the programme, as well as research perspectives on the field will be highlighted. Tutorial sessions will consist of hands-on exercises or live demonstrations on computers. Tutorials will be performed in a Linux environment. It is assumed that participants will be familiar with this environment.

Topics will include:

  1. RNASeq/DNASeq data handling
  2. Mapping tools for reads alignment and visualisation
  3. Differential expression analysis
  4. Statistical analysis using R/bioconductor
  5. Biological data visualization tool(s)
