About the conference

The EMBO Conference “Signalling in plant development” is the 2nd conference in the recent series of EMBO Plant Molecular Biology conferences, complementing the 1st conference “The Interdisciplinary Plant Development”organized in Sep 2014 in Cambridge. The conference will take place in Brno, Czech Republic, the place where the basic rules of heredity were layed down by Johan Gregor Mendel in 1865.

 

The ability of developmental adaptations is a critical prerequisite for any organism to sustain the environmental changes. Plants are superb in integrating various signalling inputs allowing their adaptation not only the immediate environmental status but also to anticipate further development and modulate their developmental programs in a mid-term perspective. Detailed understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying such signal integration at the systemic level is of high general biology importance and will provide us with the possibility of effective improvement of a wide spectrum of economically important crop traits ranging from higher resistance to drought and cold until engineering plant shapes or preventing competition among individual plants in the field.    

 

The conference “Signalling in plant development” will focus on signalling events at different levels of organization in plant cells such as proteins, cells, tissues and interaction with environment. The focus will be on integrating various interdisciplinary methodologies in order to approach from all available angles the signalling events shaping various aspects of plant development and show them also in evolutionary context.

 

The conference topics will include:

  • Signalling networks
  • Post-transcriptional regulations of signalling events
  • Evolution and variations

 

Keynote lecture will be given by Elliot Meyerowitz (CALTECH, USA).

Information for participants

ACCOMMODATION

The capacity in the conference hotel is limited here are more option for accommodation. If you want to share the room with other participant please, let us know and we will help you.
Please choose and confirm the accommodation directly to the hotels. (number of nights, single or double)

Private SCHUTTLE BUSES

We will arrange the schuttle bus from / to Vienna airport.

MEETING POINT : our colleague Lucie will be waiting at the arrival hall close to entrance for arrivals with the board "EMBO CONFERENCE". Please find her. She will take you to the bus.

  • 20th September – 16:30 from Vienna airport
  • 24th September – 14:00 to Vienna airport (from the conference hotel)

REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION DESK

After arrival you will be asked to check-in to the hotel and register to the conference.

POSTER SESSION

When you bring the poster you will get the number at registration (the same as in book of abstract). The same number will be already displayed on the board. All posters must be displayed the latest on Monday 21 at 14:30 in the lecture hall 2 Pins for hanging posters will be available at the hall. Presenting authors are kindly requested to present throughout the official poster sessions time inorder to explain their research and to answer the questions. There will be no guided formal discussion.
There will be two groups :

  • Poster session 1 will present ONLY posters with odd numbers (1; 3; 5…)
  • Poster session 2 will present ONLY posters with even numbers (2; 4; 6…)

Registration includes:

Only cancellation in writing to the event manager (dana.cernoskova@ceitec.cz) will be accepted.

Selection criteria

Participants will be selected on the basis of the abstract submission. All selected participants will give their presentation in the form of posters. In addition, a number of abstracts will be selected for flash poster presentation.
 
Participants planning to bring a poster will be given priority; the relevance of the poster to the conference theme will be taken into consideration.

 

Abstracts and posters

Abstract: max 300 words.

Poster Specification:
Please bring one printed copy of your poster A0, portrait format.
Posters should have a border of a few centimetres to allow the frame

 

The poster boards will be ready for hanging posters from Sunday 5:00 PM.
All posters must be displayed on Monday 21 at 2:30 PM

There is a copy center within 5-minute-walk from the hotel if you wish to print your poster.

By Bus

There are plenty of buses which travel to Brno. The connection Prague–Brno takes ca. 2.5 hours and Vienna – Brno from airport or city center ca. 2 hours.

By Car

Brno is located on the main Czech highway D1 and D2. Please note that driving through czech highways and other main roads requires a vignette, which is for sale at the border, petrol stations, post offices and motor clubs.

Brno is an important rail junction situated on the Balkan – Budapest- Prague – Berlin – Scandinavia rail route. All Eurocity trains stop in Brno. The distance from Prague to Brno is 256 kilometres, from Vienna 155 kilometres, from Bratislava 132 kilometres, from Berlin 566 kilometres and from Wroclaw 312 kilometres. The Central railway station is located in the centre of Brno, a few minutes walk from the historic centre. Train connections can be found on https://www.cd.cz/en/default.htm.
