Cellular and molecular mechanism of tumour–microenvironment crosstalk

9 – 12 July 2015 | Tomsk, Russia

About the workshop

Despite recent advances in our understanding of fundamental aspects of cancer cell biology and development of anti-cancer therapeutic approaches, evidence accumulate indicating that efficient anti-cancer personalized therapy is possible only if we consider the role of tumor microenvironment in carcinogenesis. The field of immunology has made a great progress in our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms and new functions of immune cells. The most timely and relevant task today is to bring together leading scientist in cancer research and immunology to facilitate the knowledge exchange and to create new hypothesis on the role of specific subsets of immune cells in the regulation of tumor microenvironment and its role not only in the growth of primary tumors but also in the metastatic tumor cell spread and formation of metastatic niches in the distant organs. The state-of-the-art idea of our meeting is to discuss the specificity of innate and adaptive tumor immunity depending on the presence of viral and bacterial pathogens. The EMBO Workshop aims to develop beyond-state-of-the art concepts for the advanced personalized therapy by tumor microenvironment. The innovative personalized approach will have a significant socio-economic impact by increasing the efficiency of cancer therapy and improving patients’ quality of life.

Criteria for the selection of presentations (poster and oral)

  1. The content of the report has to correspond to the focus of the workshop.
  2. The topic of the presentation has to be relevant and timely.
  3. There has to be a high level novelty.
  4. The research has to be original.
  5. The experimental approach and model systems have to be state-of the-art, the presented results have to be of a high biological significance, the interpretation has to be based on the advances knowledge in the field.
  6. The message of the presentation has to provide advances to the progress of fundamental and/or translational and clinical science.
  7. The level of English has to be very good to allow efficient professional communication. The English level of a participant should allow him/her to make report, to answer the questions and take part in discussions.

Additional non-presenting participants

The main criterion for the selection of additional non-presenting participants is the importance of the workshop for their future research career. First of all, we will select researchers in the early stages of their career so that they can receive advanced knowledge in molecular/cell biology and biomedical sciences. And also to be integrated in the research environment at a high international level. Secondly, we will select clinical experts who aim to join the research community so they can build collaborations with researchers in order to facilitate the translation of research results into clinical practice. We will also select participants working in the field of education so that they can promote the knowledge and scientific education to a younger generation. Industrial participants (especially representatives from small and medium enterprises, SME) will be also selected in order to facilitate the translation of research data into generation of diagnostic and therapeutic products for clinical application.

Registration will be confirmed after payment has been received.

It is the oldest cultural, educational and scientific centre in Siberia boasting the original appearance and special atmosphere of a University centre. Now, Tomsk is still a city of students and scientists: there are 5 Universities, 4 other higher education institutes, 15 institutes for scientific research, a technological development special economic zone and 6 business-incubators. Neither Moscow nor St. Petersburg has as large a proportion of students and scientists as Tomsk has. Therefore, despite its respectable age the city is strikingly young. Guests of the city are always welcome and have a chance to feast their eyes on the city’s distinctive architecture and the wooden carvings of ancient houses, get a glimpse of cultural traditions and experience Siberian hospitality.
