About the conference

In recent years, Innate Lymphoid Cells (ILCs) have emerged as a new relevant field in immunology, contributing to tissue homeostasis as well as defense against pathogens and inflammatory disorders. The objective of this EMBO Conference is to present and discuss data and observations on the basic biology of ILCs, including their development, activation, fate and functions, as well as on their role during homeostasis and inflammation in humans and mice.

Selection criteria

The Organizers will select participants according to EMBO guidelines and on the basis of their abstract, aiming to ensure compatibility with quality and a fair representation of genders and nationalities.


At least two-thirds of the participants should be based in EMBC Member States with no more than 15% of participants residing in the country where the conference is being held.


Notification of your acceptance to the conference is sent by 01/08/2016 with the payment details. A letter of confirmation of registration is sent after the payment of the conference fee. Participants will have the opportunity to present their results during poster sessions.


A limited number of abstracts will be selected for oral presentations.
 Number of participants is limited.

Abstract Guidelines

Abstracts must be 300 words in length, or shorter.
Abstracts that do not respect these limits may be returned and may not appear in the abstract book.

Abstracts must be submitted in clear English and must contain novel data. The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission.


Important: please specify your working group within the institution.

Poster Specifications

Please bring one printed copy of your poster: A0 format (118 x 84 cm), portrait format.


Travel grants

The EMBO Conference on Innate Lymphoid Cells supports the active participation of young scientists (PhD, MD students and young postdocs) from countries in need of scientific strengthening*. Funding will be provided as partial reimbursement with up to 500 Euro after the conference upon submission of the original receipts.

Reviewing Process and Selection

Applications will be reviewed by the Scientific Organizing Committee.
Successful applicants will be notified within 3 weeks after submission deadline of their awards so that they may take advantage of early registration fee rates.

Priority will be given to participants working in laboratories in: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey. Travel grants may also be provided to participants working in labs in: Africa, Asia (excluding Japan and Korea), South and Central America, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia and Ukraine.  


Travel grants to participants from India, Taiwan, South Africa and Singapore

Travel grants up to 1.000 € are available for participants of any nationality working in laboratories in India, Taiwan, South Africa and Singapore. Visa costs, accommodation and subsistence will not be covered by these funds.

Eligible participants will be contacted to offer the grant and reimburse the recipients directly for the travel costs.

The Berlin public transport system covers all areas of the city and both airports. From Tegel Airport it takes approx. 30 minutes to get to the Kalkscheune (public transport, 2,70 €), from Schönefeld Airport approx. 60 minutes (public transport, 3,30 €).

Several public transport stops are in walking distance to the Kalkscheune:

  • Station Oranienburger Tor (subway line U6, tram lines M1, M12, and M5), 2 minutes
  • Station Oranienburger Straße (lines S1, S2 and S25), 3 minutes
  • Station Friedrichstraße (city trains S1, S2, S25, S5, S7, S75; subway line U6; tram lines M1, M12, and M5), 15 minutes
