About the conference

Understanding the mechanisms through which gene expression is regulated is central to understanding life at the molecular level. Studies of unicellular yeasts have played pivotal roles in the development of new concepts and technologies in the field of transcription regulation. The 2016 EMBO Conference "Gene transcription in yeast: From chromatin to RNA and back" will focus on integration of the different interconnected steps: chromatin structure, dynamics and function, transcription initiation, elongation and termination, RNA processing, modification and degradation, non-coding RNA and its role in regulation. Both established and new technologies will be highlighted, including single cell, genomic, computational, cell biology, molecular genetic and biochemical approaches. The EMBO Conference will therefore include presentations that range from the atomic detail of molecular structures, to studies of the entire system of gene expression.

The EMBO Conference brings together scientists from different disciplines and from across the world, at all levels of expertise. This ranges from the many internationally recognised leaders who have been invited to present their latest results, to scientists who are considering starting their scientific careers in this exciting field. The entire conference, including accommodation and social events will be in one venue, with the maximum number of participants limited to 160. There will therefore be ample opportunity to meet all participants and to present and discuss research findings. Approximately half of the speaking slots will be selected from submitted abstracts and the poster sessions are extremely well-visited and lively.

Selection criteria

a) Scientific need
b) Quality of the science intending to present.

It is envisaged that where it is necessary to reduce places offered, this will be done by limiting the number of participants from any one particular laboratory to either one or two.
Abstract submission

A number of abstracts will be selected for oral presentation (please indicate preference for oral or poster presentation).
Posters: Poster Board spaces allow for A0 format (1189 x 841)

Payment details will be sent to all accepted participants.
Should you need to cancel your participation, please contact the Conference Officer immediately. If notice of cancellation is received more than two weeks before the conference, all but EUR 100 will be reimbursed. No refund is possible if notice of cancellation is received less than two weeks before the conference.

Participants who cannot, for whatever reason, take one of the shuttle buses from the airport are advised to take a bus or taxi to Estacion del Norte (the bus departure station in the city centre of Barcelona). From Estacion del Norte take a bus from the Sarfa company to Sant Feliu de Guixols.

The hotel has 80 double rooms with balcony and a sea view, fully equipped bathroom, direct dial telephone, TV-Sat, minibar, safety deposit box and 40 standard double rooms with balcony, fully equipped bathroom, TV-Sat and direct dial telephone.

The Hotel Eden Roc is located 120km northeast of Barcelona at the Costa Brava, the beautiful coast of the Mediterranean sea, about 1km from Sant Feliu de Guíxols in an unrivalled and peaceful peninsula.
The transparent Mediterranean sea touches 360m of coastline surrounding the hotel and the weather is pleasant all year round. In the summer the sea breeze prevents the thermometer exceeding 30 celsius.

Arrival June 11th:
There will be 3 buses leaving Barcelona International Airport going to Sant Feliu at 14h, 15h30 and 16h30.

Please organize your flight arrival such that you can take either one of these buses and register in advance for one by sending an email to:

Please be aware that taxis from the airport to St. Feliu are expensive.

Departure June 16th:
2 Buses will be leaving San Feliu going to Barcelona airport after the last session at 12.30 (estimated arrival Barcelona Airport around 14.15).

By Car
From Barcelona take exit Nº 9 on the motorway A-7. From France take exit Nº 7.

By plane
There are daily flights from all International airports to Barcelona (at 120km). A nearer airport is Girona (at 30km).
Bus shuttles from/to Barcelona airport will be organized.

By train
The nearest train station is in Girona (at 30km.). A taxi from the train station to St Feliu costs approx. 35 Euros.
